Contents • • • • • • • • Gameplay [ ] The player assumes the role of a Delta Force operative who takes part in military operations in various theatres. Objectives typically involve the elimination of a hostile presence in a region, assassinating a high-profile target, destroying military equipment or escorting POWs or civilians to an extraction point. Depending on the mission the player also needs to make it to an extraction point himself after fulfilling all other objectives. All five campaigns are available from the get-go and additional missions are unlocked as previous ones are completed. Do you have what it takes to be in the world's elite Delta Force? Download a free trial, read about the game, and view user reviews. How to Install? Extract the file using Winrar. (Download Winrar); Open “Delta Force 2 – ApunKaGames” folder, double click on “Setup” and install it. After installation complete, go to the folder where you install the game. Open folder, double click on “Df2” icon to play the game. Sometimes multiple missions are unlocked at once and it is up to the player in which order to play them in. The game features 40 missions in total. Equipment [ ] Before each mission the player is able to choose his equipment. Default loadouts differ from mission to mission but the player can exchange it without any restrictions. The inventory is based on three slots: one for the main weapon, one for extra equipment and one for a sidearm. Multiplayer [ ] Delta Force also features LAN and online multiplayer for up to 32 players. All missions from the singleplayer campaign can be played cooperatively with additional players replacing the AI-controlled Delta Force operatives. Additionally deathmatch, king of the hill and capture the flag are available, along with team variations. Development [ ] Delta Force uses NovaLogic's own proprietary engine, known from their earlier games such as the Comanche series, which uses voxels to visualise terrain while polygons are used for rendering characters, vehicles, buildings and other details. This method allowed for draw distances and terrain detail unseen in first person shooters at the time and supported the game's attempt to simulate realistic outdoor combat at distances of up to several hundred meters. A limitation of the engine was that it did not support any form of 3D acceleration. Reception [ ] Reception Aggregate score Aggregator Score 80% Review scores Publication Score 7/10 A− 9.1/10 8.7/10 90% 89% 66% The game received 'favorable' reviews according to video game. GameSpot's Michael E. Awarded the game 9.1 out of 10, calling it 'a very impressive game overall', particularly praising the game's mission and sound design, albeit pointing out its outdated visuals. He also drew comparisons to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, released earlier the same year, but noted Delta Force's limited preparation options compared to the latter. He also praised the multiplayer mode but noted that technical problems made it hard to play. PC Gamer Online's Todd Vaughn awarded the game 89%, also drawing comparisons to Rainbow Six but noting Delta Force's focus on long-distance fights and lower level of realism. He concluded: 'Overall, Delta Force is a surprising and welcome addition to the genre that uses just the right mix [of] action and tactics to set itself apart from the crowd.' Sequels [ ] The game was successful enough to receive a direct sequel,, the following year and spawn a long-running series. The latest game in the series is, released in 2009. Another game titled was announced but remains unfinished. Inspired by the popularity of Ridley Scott's war film, chronicling the, NovaLogic developed a Delta Force game with the same theme titled, which was released in 2003. Due to the rise in popularity of military-themed multiplayer shooters with vehicular combat, most notably, NovaLogic also developed a multiplayer focused spin-off of the Delta Force series titled, released in 2004. A lot of empty space out there. Gameplay is half military simulator, half arcade shoot ’em up, whereby your special forces persona gets tossed into very large combat zones and has to do battle with limited weaponry and hitpoints. Campaigns go about through several hot-spots in Asia, Africa, Indonesia, South America and a few other places, with missions encompassing clear-and-destroy, demolition, convoy takedowns or data retrieval jobs. All of these assignments of course take place in outdoor areas, depicting natural landscapes with respectable detail. Lines of sight are realistic and the impact to system performance is reasonable. Gameplay and mission design tries as much to simulate real combat, but this is altogether quite a conventional first-person action game with a few ‘sim’ trappings. For one thing, you can only carry one of several semi-realistic small arms – such as an M4 assault rifle with an attached M203, a suppressed MP5 for stealth operations, an M249 heavy support weapon or a couple of sniper rifles that differ in caliber size. Because of the nature of the engine, those weapons that let you scope targets from afar will always have the upper hand, rendering such weapons as the M249 or MP5 quite useless. The stealth-oriented MP5, which could have made for some exciting midnight raids against unwary terrorists, is pointless to use because of the AI’s tendency to spot you from miles away, be it day or night. The M4 is the all-purpose assault rifle that fits every bill – its scope lets you shoot targets from afar while a burst feature makes it deadly in tight spots as well, and the grenade launcher can literally bring the house down. Other specialized equipment includes an M72 LAW launcher, perfect against armored threats, frag grenades and remote-detonated satchel charges. Sizing up a compound during a night raid. Beside the weapons, there are a few other things grounding this shooter in reality, but only barely. There’s a thinly veiled team element to gameplay, but it’s one that isn’t half as solid as it could have been. Instead of accompanying you into combat zones under your direct command (as in Rainbow Six), team members are scrambled around an objective and handed pre-designated waypoints during an assault. So as you attack from the south, another lone guy might attack from the east, and another from the west. Probably not how the military handles this stuff in real life. But given their haphazard AI, you might not want your pals to be anywhere near you when bullets start whizzing. Hardened and specially trained as they are, AI team mates don’t have the common sense to hit the ground and return fire when they’re getting shot, and instead opt to blindly follow waypoints no matter what. Their AI is so limited that one can’t help feel sympathetic to level designers hiding the help as far away as possible. They would just get in the way otherwise. Whether you’ll enjoy Delta Force is a tough call. It’s an awkward stew of one or two neat ideas mixed with an atrocious AI and somewhat limited prospects. Instead of being a hardcore military simulation, it’s more like any typical FPS with a Special Forces bent. It tells us nothing of how the real guys do their job, but damn if it isn’t fun in its own quirky way. System Requirements: Pentium 166 Mhz, 32 MB RAM, 120 MB HDD, Win95. Well as much as I could interpret, there are 2 types: the defensive types will take position in their base and try to defend it at all costs, the perimeter guards were tricky, sometimes they pretend to run away but actually take a better hiding position, sometimes they will try to rush you by coming in hordes of numbers, other times they cleverly flank you. One guy would engage you, while his buddy will cleverly work his way up to you. But it is random, you’ll never know which guy will do what. Its a lot better than any other game in the series( where npcs don’t even sometimes react to their buddies getting sniped beside them ). A little more work and they would have even challenged OFP enemy ai. 829.3 KB HiFiGame Downloads Search Engine * Please use correct spelling, short & single keyword Search File (Keyword): Recent Searches|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||. We feel confident in stating that our team of prognosticators not only provides the best free against the spread NCAA football predictions but the best possible. With the exception of that slip against Auburn, the Tide have proven themselves to be the best team in college football this season. This does not diminish what Georgia has been able to accomplish in its highly impressive run to this title game, but I still believe the gap between these two SEC foes is wider than the current 4.5-point spread. Look for another strong showing by Alabama’s defense on Monday night to shutdown the Bulldogs’ running game in a SU win that covers ATS while also working to keep the total UNDER. It is going to be a tall task for UCF to finish its amazing run this season undefeated, but it does have the talent on both sides of the ball to give the Tigers all they can handle in this matchup. I would give the Knights a big edge in motivation and momentum given everything they have accomplished coupled with Auburn’s questionable motivation coming off such a devastating loss in that conference title game. The 9.5-point spread in this game has held steady since it was first released, but I think it will reach double digits figures by the time kickoff rolls around on New Year’s Day. Either way, I am rolling the dice that UCF finds a way to cash in ATS. Guaranteed best free sports picks, predictions and odds daily from. Free College Football Picks; Free NBA. I would normally jump all over a Mid Major with the Tigers’ credentials against a mid-level team from a Power 5 conference, but I have been equally impressed with what Iowa State brings the table in this game. Memphis also has the luxury of playing the Liberty Bowl in its home town, but that extra half-point on the current spread is another factor pushing me towards the Cyclones in this game. This one should be a barnburner that racks up some serious points to take the total OVER the 66.5-point total, but my ‘best bet’ pick is Iowa State plus the 3.5 points in what could easily be a three-point game either way. There was a reason why the Rockets opened as an eight-point favorite in this market. Very simply, Toledo has the more impressive resume and convincing body of work to back up their impressive record. Toledo’s two losses this season came at the Miami Hurricanes, a team that continued onto play for a College Football Playoff berth and at rival Ohio. Appalachian State has fallen to the likes of UL Monroe and Massachusetts, games that the Mountaineers were favored to win. There was a lot of hyperbole surrounding this football team as they came into the 2017 season with some of senior-laden talent this outfit featured. As such, some prognosticated that Appalachian State would do what is historically known to do and orchestrate another stunning upset to open the regular season. However, the Georgia Bulldogs would not fall prey and did their homework. Chances are Toledo has as well, swallow the points. We are going to side with the public this one because very simply we are getting the better team at the better price. When comparing Stanford to TCU, we simply look at who these two outfits played and how they fared. The Cardinal owns two losses against the Pac-12 Champion, USC. The second contest was way too close for comfort for the Trojans as a field goal was required to settle the score. Outside of this, Stanford lost to Washington State in the notorious Pullman, Washington by once again a field goal. Stanford also fell at San Diego State earlier in the season by once more a field goal margin. Stanford could easily be a one-loss champion had a few bounces fell their way. The opposite is true with TCU. The Horned Frogs were dominated by Oklahoma not once but twice in their collisions this season and were also defeated at home by the Iowa State Cyclones. They say Stanford likes to fight teams in phone booths and given how atypically soft TCU is, the Frogs better buckle up. Whenever we see the public smother a dog, we have said it before and we will say it again, we have to take a closer look. The market reactions simply boil down to Michigan State’s overachievement this season and the good form they have entered in. The Cougars seem like a risky option be that all of their three losses were blowouts and thus many fear getting buried by an underperforming Washington State outfit. However, Washington State has not had a ten-win season in 14 years. There is plenty of motivation here for the Cougars to show up and reach a benchmark they have not met in a decade. Thus, we will take advantage of a short-priced dog set up for a huge performance. Swallow the points. Most of the general public saw Army survive against a 6-6 Navy team where a missed field goal attempt decided the winner of America’s Game. Against a perceived higher-quality opponent in SDSU, many may be quick to conclude that the Black Knights have little chance here. However, the outcome of the Army/Navy game does not suggest that by any means. The rivalry is one of the most potent in all of college football and thus all stats go out the window. San Diego State is the one that may come in flat to this contest. After all the Aztecs were aspiring to play in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game at one point this season. Army will enter with heightened motivation given what they have already achieved this campaign. This team could be every sense of the word, live dog. Take the points. Utah State have made five bowl appearances dating back to 2011. New Mexico State has not been to a bowl game since the Kennedy Era. This in itself makes New Mexico State a tough option to back to the public eye. Over Utah State’s recent bowl appearances, they are 3-2 SU in these respective affairs. The two losses were decided by a combined three points. Furthermore, Utah State defeated recognizable names when it comes to mid-major teams, including Toledo and Northern Illinois. All of these considerations further inflate the consensus perception of Utah State. Nevertheless, we would urge all keen to back Utah State to think again as these conditions curate the possibility for an overlay. Not only can New Mexico State cover, they can likely win here. Thus, NM State may also be worth a look on the Money Line in addition to simply taking the points. After getting smoked by Florida Atlantic for the second time this season in the Conference USA Championship, the Mean Green come in with an exceptionally low stock. However, takers beware. This is a football team that can still finish with ten wins on the season. By UNT’s standards this would be an exceptional season and their offense can certainly generate enough firepower to give the Green a chance at victory. Troy is a household name at this point when it concerns mid-major clubs and that is what is likely driving this market combined with the fact the Trojans secured a piece of the Sun Belt Conference title. Nevertheless, Troy could have easily loss at Arkansas State given the fact the Red Wolves made terrific mistakes in the red zone. Moreover, Troy won the Sun Belt by virtue of a coin toss as they had to split the title with another big dog in the conference Appalachian State. The number is one that we like to see underdogs hover. North Texas can pull the upset in The Big Easy. What this market assessment boils down to is bowl experience. Western Kentucky had won the Conference USA for two years in a row and earned successive bowl bids to a game of its choosing as a result; Georgia State has never played in a bowl game before. This difference is driving the public’s perspective and vantage of this contest. Though the records are similar, these two programs are headed in opposite directions. Last year, Georgia State couldn’t even qualify for a bowl game. At one point this year, the Panthers were the favorite to win the Sun Belt given the fact they were playing at a stellar level in conference play. Though State lost the conference race down the backstretch they have nevertheless shown they are going to be in the mix on a perennial basis moving forward. Western Kentucky is still trying to find out how to move on since Jeff Brohm left for Purdue. Look for a spirited Panthers team to take the fight to a Western Kentucky bunch prone to come in flat due to stark contrasts in campaign outcomes when compared to a year ago. The Demon Deacons have had success in postseason bowls lately, while the Aggies have been a bettor’s nightmare in most of their bowl game appearances over the past several years. These two teams do matchup rather well against one another on paper, but I would give the slight edge to Texas A&M as the more battle-tested side in this pairing. Wake Forest will be playing in the friendly confines of Bank of America Stadium in its home state, but I am still going to take the Aggies and the three points in what could easily be a three-point game either way. The big storyline in this bowl game will be Virginia Tech’s shutdown defense against one of the most prolific offenses in Division IA this season. It will be a battle of wills, but I am going to lean towards the Cowboys in this one both SU and ATS. They are a bit more battle tested coming out of the Big 12 in a game that the Hokies could find themselves struggling to keep pace on the scoreboard. Virginia Tech’s defense was exposed a bit against the better teams it faced this season and that will be the case in this game. Oregon will have to endure the news that their Head Coach Willie Taggart is moving onto Florida State. How that affects preparation for this bowl game remains to be seen. The fact remains there is no mid-major team in all of the history of college football that is primed to rumble with heavyweight teams like the Boise State Broncos. Their history speaks volumes as to what they are capable of. Whether it be the dramatic Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma or their victories over Virginia Tech and Georgia in high-profile kick-off games, the Broncos have a penchant for games of this nature. This makes them a very dangerous team to sleep on and one that should not be overlooked. We have a prime opportunity to fade the public and snag inflated points on a premium outfit. Boise State gets our call. Situationally, this scenario sets up ideally to back the Trojans. Ohio State’s psyche heading into this game remains in question. After all, the Buckeyes were stiff-armed out of the playoff and this game may seem like a pale consolation prize. The opposite is the case for USC. The Trojans were one of the most highly touted teams in the beginning of the 2017 season and failed to live up to the hype. Some had dared to call Southern California National Champion material and penciled in their quarterback Sam Darnold as a consensus Heisman Trophy winner. Whilst the perception of this outfit was inflated, this is the opportune scenario for USC to at least justify some of that hype. Typically, we would expect to pay a hefty price to back the Men of Troy in a bowl game of this magnitude. However, given the fact Ohio State has been gaining a lot of national attention as of late the Trojans may offer tremendous value for the first time in a long time in any bowl game. The talk of the town is how will Georgia handle the test of stopping Baker Mayfield? The better question is how will Oklahoma handle the Bulldog defense? The Big 12 Conference is an offense-oriented one that emphasizes air raid attacks. Look no further than the cast of characters in this ensemble: OU, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Iowa State. The environment is conducive for explosive offensive operations. However, the Dawgs have the antidote. The Bulldogs stand among the best in the country at running the football and it is a great complement to their brutal and physical defense. You also have the coaching factor. Dawgs Head Coach Kirby Smart has been games of this magnitude before with Alabama as their Defensive Coordinator. Sooners Head Coach Lincoln Riley is navigating his first College Football Playoff in a highly influential role. These narratives will make the difference. Glory, Glory to Ole Georgia. If there was ever a time for a changing of the guard in this rivalry it would be now. The Black Knights overall are the better team and have a more convincing body of work this season as to relevance and quality. However, Navy holds a huge emotional edge in this contest because they know if they win they keep the trophy for yet another year. In spite of some of the let-downs this team has faced this year, Navy has a chance to take away what it classes as its biggest victory. This game is basically the equivalent of the Super Bowl for both squads. Sure, Navy was at one point ranked in the top-25 and even emerged as a favorite to win the American Athletic Conference. Whilst those days are dead and gone, hope remains abreast in this rivalry. Look for Navy to come out with a fantastic performance in unexpected fashion. • • • • • • The handicapping and sports wagering information contained on this website is for entertainment purposes only. This is based on the original list composed. 10 Apps for Learning and Attention Issues 1. Dyslexia Toolbox is a free app on Apple iTunes and a recent addition to the App Store. First, there’s the overlay feature that allows users to turn their smartphone into a digital overlay so that they may read text through a color screen. Smith says the use of overlays that change color and typeface are beneficial to some readers with dyslexia. Another feature allows users to take a photograph with their phone, crop and turn text into a digital document reader and have text read aloud. Ages: Middle school, high school Price: Free; some features require in-app purchase 2. This is an interactive, paid subscription-based newspaper for children ages 7-10. For children with auditory processing issues or difficulty with verbal reasoning, there is a “Read to Me” option. The News-o-Matic app is available in three reading levels and also offers a Spanish option. Ages: Grade school Price: Trial period is free; full subscription is $4.99/month 3. The First Then Visual Schedule (FTVS) HD app is an excellent tool for creating auditory and visual apps for any child. Its simple, multi-sensory interface has great potential for use with children with “ or learning disabilities; anxiety or attention issues; language, hearing, or processing difficulties; or who may be learning English as a second language.” Parents may use FTVS to create schedules combining images, text, sound and even video for their children. Adding these different items to the schedule makes it more exciting for children and as a result they are more likely to follow it than text-only schedules. Ages: Grade school, middle school Price: $14.99 4. This app is a unique, engaging way for children to build and practice fundamental math skills. Using the app’s touch interface, children learn math concepts by separating or combining different dots. For example, the 5 dot is larger than the 3 dot. If the game challenges a child to produce the value of 8, he or she must come up with a solution within the time allotted. There are several different skill levels on this app and most problems have multiple solutions. This is a fun way to practice math AND motor skills! Ages: Preschool, grade school Price: $2.99 5. This app is an adventure game inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s poem “.” In the game, children learn social skills and emotional intelligence. They create their own dog avatars and travel on a quest promoting self-awareness and positive social communication, through the fantasy world, Ziggurat. In each chapter, children talk with other creatures, make friends and solve problems. With the help of the wise zen-like master, YouDog, children think about and exercise choices related to core social and emotional learning skills such as gratitude, helpfulness, and regulation of fear. Parents can view a report on their child’s gameplay and skills practiced in each chapter. Ages: Grade school, middle school Price: First chapter is free; additional chapters require paid subscription 6. Oftentimes, older children find themselves stressing out and losing touch with their thoughts and feelings. This app uses guided meditation and breathing exercises to help them relax and refocus. For beginners, the app includes a primer on how to meditate. Then individuals can select words and images that illustrate their current state of mind. Then the app provides a list of appropriate exercises. It also tracks their total meditation time and how “settled” they feel. Jamie Price is the executive director of Tools for Peace, the company behind this app. She states, “The meditations in the app can help you get calm, clear, and focused. They can also help you create the mental space for inspiration. If your creative process has to do with understanding and communicating with people, the meditations are geared to help you put yourself in another person’s shoes and really try to imagine their experience.” Ages: Middle school, high school (there is also a set of meditations for adults) Price: Free; additional meditations available through in-app purchases 7. This app teaches young children social and academic skills, creativity and a love of learning through animated storytelling. Each chapter tells a story and features interactive games, puzzles, and songs. There is also a “Parent’s Pad” within the app, which tracks progress of each child’s play and explains all of the skills and ideas they are developing during play. Dota 2 features the characters and factions from the original Defense of the Ancients. 6 Free-To-Play Games That. There was a time when “free-to-play” was a dirty term in the games industry. There are still terrible, exploitative free-to-play games on the market—more every day, in fact. But occasionally— occasionally—we get something.miraculous. We get a free-to-play game that doesn’t try to con players out of money or make the design intentionally boring in order to make those purchasable unlocks more exciting. Here, you’ll find a list of games so good the developers could’ve charged money (or, in some cases, did charge money) before going free-to-play. These aren’t just good free-to-play games, they’re good games, full stop. UPDATED: April 2017: Some games added ( EVE Online, etc.), some updated ( Path of Exile), some removed (shakes fist at Tribes: Ascend). It's been three or four years since I first wrote this list, and MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas) are still king of the free-to-play pile. Not only do they have a staggering number of users, but maintains the record for biggest e-sports prize on the planet: featured a prize pool of $20.7 million this year. If you've still never dipped your toe in the MOBA waters, just know that Dota 2 is the successor to the WarCraft III mod DOTA, or Defense of the Ancients, the grandpappy of the whole genre. Players pick a hero and battle it out against the other team, competing to bring down the enemy base by out-maneuvering foes with skillful tactics. Or, if you're like me, you pick a hero and mess something up five minutes in, and your entire team gets angry because they know you just lost them the game. And we can't mention Dota 2 without mentioning its counterpart,. League is yet another MOBA, again inspired by the original DOTA mod. So why choose League of Legends over Dota 2? Now we're getting into dangerous 'Mac versus PC' or 'Schwarzenegger versus Stallone' arguments—the type where nobody wins. The truth is you should just pick whichever one your friends are playing or whichever looks best to you, and jump in. The differences when you're starting are minimal—you probably won't even notice most until you've reached an advanced skill level in one or the other. If you want a free-to-play game done right, it's. To start with, it's one of the best action-RPGs in recent memory. Its convoluted class/leveling system gets talked about most, but the whole point-and-click-on-things-until-they-die aspect has a great feel to it, the loot drops are satisfying, and the world itself fascinating. But even more impressive is that developer Grinding Gear continues to add a staggering amount of content to the game each year. Seems like the studio gets in touch with me about another expansion once or twice a year. The game's sixth expansion, The Fall of Oriath, is due to release sometime in 2017, adding another entire act to the game's story. As I said: It's a pretty incredible action-RPG. Highly recommended for fans of click-click-click combat. Is proof that an excellent brand and/or aesthetic can make a game a hit, even if the game itself is lackluster. Your goal is to build and populate a Fallout Vault-Tec Vault and keep the survivors alive in the post-apocalypse. Rome wasn't built in a day, though, and your Vault's no different—this is one of those 'waiting'-style free-to-play games where you queue up some actions and then just let it sit for (real-world) hours as you wait for things to unfold. As I said: It's not an incredible game, but the Fallout hook is a lot of fun. The newly-released PC version is a hell of a lot prettier (and easier to navigate) than the mobile version. You'll hear some people refer to as an ' Overwatch clone,' and that's understandable—it's a hero-based shooter, with the same somewhat-cartoony aesthetic and even some ability overlaps, like the guy who wields a transparent blue shield. But Paladins is also its own thing. It was made by Hi-Rez (of Tribes: Ascend fame/infamy) and has a unique card-based loadout system, mix-and-match skins, and more. It's Overwatch-esque, sure, but also an excellent game in its own right—maybe a bit less balanced, and with fewer interesting champions. But for anyone who lacks the scratch to try out Overwatch or wants to give Blizzard's shooter a break, Paladins is a solid alternative. Like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and other physical collectible card games (CCGs) of old, your task in is to create the most advantageous deck and battle it against your opponent’s. The key difference? Hearthstone is made by Blizzard, and based off the Warcraft license. And it's pretty good, though it's suffered from growing pains lately. People seem more and more dissatisfied with the rate of card drops and other free-to-play aspects, as each new expansion makes the game a bit more expensive to play. It's also much harder to get into nowadays, given the number of cards in use, though Blizzard's at least taken some steps to address that issue. From what I can tell it’s still the most popular digital collectible card game though, regardless of how much its fans complain. If you're looking for a CCG to get into, Hearthstone's a good place to start. It's somewhat easy to write off as a Hearthstone knock-off—I mean, that seems to be the case, insofar as it's a CCG timed suspiciously to ride Hearthstone's coattails. But as far as knock-offs go, Elder Scrolls Legends actually seems pretty damned good. It has a bit more randomness built into it than Hearthstone, but also some excellent mechanics (lanes!) and a solid single-player offering. The game finally left beta in early 2017, and the expansion train is already rolling. If you're looking for a CCG that's still fresh and full of potential instead of weighted down by years of baggage, Legends is worth a try. I'm not sure how large the player base is, nor whether it'll stay active long-term, but again: As far as knock-offs go, it's a good effort. You're captain of the USS WhatsItsName. Your mission? Well, that's up to you. While has a lot of content even if you stick to developer-created missions, it's actually far more interesting due to The Foundry—a mission-building tool for players to create their own missions. Some players in Star Trek Online have recreated entire arcs from the TV shows using The Foundry, while others have crafted new stories for the Trek universe that rival the complexity of a plot you'd see on TV. It's an impressive effort and testament to the benefits of user-generated content—it's kept Star Trek Online alive long after the gaming community-at-large wrote the game off. For an MMO that’s actually friendly to its free-to-play users—almost amazingly so—try. It’s the classic case of “Game launches with subscription, game dies on the vine, developers go free-to-play, game doesn’t suck, game starts to revive. Sort of.” An action-heavy, ultra-hardcore MMO, Wildstar was supposed to be “the next big MMO,” the proverbial World of Warcraft killer. I don't think it's ever going to get there, but there's a dedicated core community keeping it on life support enough to wring some fun out of it. I'm a bit torn throwing on this list. As far as free-to-play MMOs goit's sort-of a bad deal. Free-to-play users have strict limitations on the ships they can pilot, the skills they can earn, and so on. It's “free-to-play” only by the most lenient definition of the term. But for a game that's traditionally been near-impossible for newcomers to get into, free-to-play might be a good thing. Once you get through its impenetrable spreadsheet-style interface you'll find EVE can be excellent, full of backroom politics and betrayals and friendships so strong they translate over to the real world. But that's only after you get past its spreadsheet-style interface. It's as fascinating as it is intimidating. If you've read any stories about EVE's amazing battles and wanted to check out the rest of the game for yourself without committing to a monthly subscription, now's your chance. WarCraft III was a fine real-time-strategy (RTS) game in its own right, but it was the custom games that really set it apart— Defense of the Ancients, for instance, which led directly to Dota 2/ Heroes of the Storm/ League of Legends. Perhaps hoping to replicate that success, Blizzard has made it entirely free for you to play any custom StarCraft II maps. All you have to do is and you can jump in. And if you’re curious about StarCraft proper, Blizzard’s also made a three-mission prologue titled available for free. |
